Forum for Arctic Research

Forum for Arctic Research (FAF) is a coordinated organ for central stakeholders and partners within the polar research communities. The Danish Agency for Higher Education and Science serves as the secretariat for FAF.

Purpose of FAF

The purpose of FAF is to:

  • strengthen the coordination of Arctic research, including networks and cooperative relations between stakeholders within Arctic research.
  • share knowledge about initiatives and activities within Arctic research.
  • discuss requests for cooperation from other authorities, organizations, or countries, with a view to creating better conditions for cross-cutting collaboration.

Each year, the Forum for Arctic Research prepares a report on the status and challenges regarding research and development in the field. The report may, among other things, include proposals for new priority areas and provide an overview of significant new research results.

Secretariat for FAF

The Danish Agency for Higher Education and Science serves as the secretariat for FAF. This implies, among other things, that the agency prepares agendas and minutes of the meetings. The forum meets up to three times a year.

Facts about FAF

FAF was established in 2013 by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation for a three-year period, with the possibility of extension upon recommendation from the members. The forum has since been extended by the minister in 2017 and 2022. The current mandate runs until 31 December 2026.
